CAL Board Decides that Memorial Centre will be CAL's New Home Rink.
After lengthy, comprehensive and sometimes heated debate, the CAL Board of Directors voted unanimously that the Memorial Centre will be the CAL's new home.
In its discussion, the Board took into account the current and future needs of the CAL. The great love and respect for Harvey Gardens felt by most board members was tempered by the obviously luke warm commitment of City Council to the Harve. The Board feels that by moving to the Memorial Centre the CAL continues to meet our needs for a central location, that is well served by public transit in a facility where there is much stronger City commitment. In fact, with the landscaping improvements and new swimming pool and water park, the CAL presence will help solidify services in the central city.
The CAL Board also took into consideration the needs of the entire Kingston community reflected in the City’s commitment to the Domino Theatre and the need for revitalization of Kingston’s mid-town area. This demonstration of broader civic mindedness is not a surprise because “good citizenship” is a core CAL value.
So now that CAL's commitment is given, it is now time to work with the City to make the improvements that will see the Memorial Centre truly become Home of the CAL.
The exact wording of the resolutions is:
1) That the Church Athletic League relocate to the Kingston Memorial Centre no later than at the end of the 2010-2011 hockey season, and
2) That the Church Athletic League continue to work with City staff to implement upgrades and repairs at the Memorial Centre, beyond normal safety and maintenance, to accommodate the needs of the Church Athletic League in making the Memorial Centre the new home of the Church Athletic League.
These resolutions go to City Council on Tuesday evening, April 6th.
